Luxury penthouse holiday apartment in Cabopino

Cabopino Marina

Wining and Dining in Cabopino

Cabopino - a superb place for varied and superb quality food.

In short Cabopino is a ‘Year round’ resort.  Unlike many other areas along the coast the restaurants in Cabopino do not make a fast living from tourists in the summer, and then close down for the winter months.

They are open all year round, and to enable them to do this they must attract and retain the custom of the locals.  Many of the people you will sit next to in the restaurants live here, and you often have trouble getting into some of the restaurants - even in November and December!

To keep this level of trade they have to be good. All of the restaurants offer excellent food.  A brief guide to some of the choices you will face each evening!  In alphabetic sequence.

Albert’s

You just have a visit to the toilets – even if you do not want to go – just to see the ‘delightfully over the top’ interior design.  The piano area is always decked out in suitable attire for special events – Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc.

They have a large menu – but always manage to temp us with an excellent range of delicious specials of the day!

Also popular for an excellent relaxing English breakfast.

Best to book in summer to get an outside table, and similarly in winter for an inside table!  Telephone: (0034) 952 836 886.

Bar La Plaza

Not a restaurant but a nice bar to get a drink prior to dining.  This bar is on the side of the round Plaza just behind the Marina.  Brian the landlord is a very friendly host.  Very relaxing to sit here while the kids play in the plaza for those with children.  Does a fantastic Sangria!

Beach Restaurants

There are several of these on the beach to the right of the marina as you look out to sea, and one (El Realejo) on the left of the marina.  We have eaten at most of these and they offer simple food.  Many serve local fresh fish cooked traditionally over hot ashes, etc.  Andy’s Bar has been recommended to us by past guests as being a good place to chill out after a day on the beach, with live music from time to time.

Boheim (La) – Cabopino’s Nightclub!

It is up an alley just back from the marina front.  Go between Dispensa and the Vincents cocktail bar next door and you will find it!

Bruno’s

Probably the most popular Italian in the area.  This one is also the most local!  About a 100 meter walk.  It offers fantastic Italian food, inside and on the terrace.

Due to the reputation and popularity of this restaurant we recommend you book in advance.  We have struggled to get a table in November!

Cabo Pizza

The nearest - A nice simple pizza place at the back of the shops immediately behind the apartment.  An easy place to go for a drink and food.

Graham the friendly proprietor also does take away pizza if you wish to eat on the terrace.

Cavallino

Possibly the best in the area and definitely the best value for money!  Food exactly as you like it cooked, and you are guaranteed the best table in the place with a sea view.

So get in the firelighters, coals and steaks.  Add some fresh bread, cheese and Serrano Ham (very popular in Spain and similar to Parma Ham – Jamon de Serrano in Spanish - Jamon is pronounced ham-bon – while sounding like you a trying to raise a kilo of phlegm from the back of your throat!) from the local supermarket.  Remember to also get a nice bottle of Cava or Spanish wine, some Cerveza (beer) and some crisps.

Put on a DVD for the kids (if you have any!) and set up the table on the terrace.  Enjoy - while watching the sky change colours at sunset over the med J

Despensa (La)

Excellent Italian restaurant just after Albert’s on the left as you enter the marina.  Excellent food and desserts.  Nice salads for a refreshing lunch.  Kids will love the crepes!

Giuseppe’s

Another superb Italian on your left as you enter the marina, and a favourite with the locals.

We can recommend the superb, and probably very unhealthy Salmon or Mushroom crepes for starters!

Javieres (Los)

The most Spanish of restaurants in the area.  A very nice friendly place which we always visit.  Found in the corner of the round Plaza just behind the Marina.  Easier to get a table in the summer months than on the marina and very welcoming.  They also have a hidden terrace outside the back.  The hidden terrace at the back is THE place to eat on a sunny winters day – with the protection from any breezes it gets superbly hot in this little square.

Try the Prawn Pil Pil (Gambas Pil Pil – Prawns cooked in garlic and chillies served bubbling to your table – Not spicy hot unless you eat the chillies!).  Also does a nice Steak Roquefort!

Taberna los Javieres Tapas Bar

Newly opened in 2006 by the son of the owner of the above restaurant.  A place for tapas and a lighter bite – Harder to find than the others!  From the plaza (the round square if that makes sense!) behind the marina.  Take the exit between Gold Coast rentals and Bar la Plaza and the Taberna is just through the exit in front of you.

Tangerine Indian Restaurant

On the right as you enter the marina - Just opened in 2006 – Very nice Indian food.

Pekin

Chinese Restaurant on the left as you enter the Marina.  Excellent range of sizzling dishes.  They also do a takeaway service if you wanted to eat in on the terrace.

Peurto (Ristaurante El) - Seafood Restaurant

It is on your right as you walk into the marina.  Offers fantastic seafood and excellent service but quite pricey.

Shebeen

Irish bar and snack place in the round Plaza behind the Marina.

Sportsman (the)

The nearest bar – on the corner at the back of the shops immediately behind the apartment.  A handy typical Spanish ‘British’ bar with sky sports!  Avoids the walk to the marina on those tiring days when you have had enough and fancy a drink without the walk!

TC's Bar

A nice friendly bar on the round Plaza behind the marina.

Vincent's Corner Bar

Great place for a drink or cocktail overlooking the marina.  The last place on the left as you enter the marina through the tunnel.
